Once upon a time, deep in the heart a man named Lindell Rabbit of Grizzle county fell in love with the most desired woman in all of Chrome Holler- Deliah Hash and asked her to marry him. Now at that time the people of Chrome had succeeded from Grizzle for reasons no one could even remember, so this was seen as the event that would finally bring it all back together. Many weeks were spent making big plans and both the holler and the county were all a-buzz with the excitement of this new chance at a glorious reunion.
'Now Don't Mistake My Enthusiasm For Impatience' county Mayor Eli Thompson would say as he ran about the various businesses involved in making cakes, frying chicken, and stitching the finest garments ever seen in that small community.
The most special attention was given to the musicians- Pete Fosco and Blake Edward Conley. Grizzle County wasn't known for having the most extensive musical knowledge, but everyone knew Fosco and Conley from their daily habit of sitting outside the general store picking on a pair of homemade guitars.
Mayor Thompson would come by every day and ask the men how learning the songs were coming and everyday they'd say 'oh, it's coming along nicely. No you can't hear it yet, we wanna save it for the big day!'
Now what the mayor didn't know is Fosco and Conley were self taught and couldn't learn someone else's songs if their lives depended on it. They relied on their strange connection with whatever muse that exists that allows music to be conjured from thin air without any forethought. They composed 2 songs for the occasion, one for the bride, whose beauty came so easily that they named it Natural Chrome, and the other in honor of the Grizzled Man who would take her to be his.
On the day of the wedding all came at the border between the county and the holler. As the ceremony began, the musicians began to play. The crowds attending didn't know what to make of the sounds echoing deep out into the walls of Limestone that was to make for the alter. The bride and groom stood face to face and just as the preacher began, the sky cracked open, spewing a stream of rain never before seen.
All were taken by surprise as a river deep gush poured over the high cliff above and pooled and flowed dead down the middle of the ceremony walk separating the bride and groom and taking the poor pastor with it. Kinfolk and kind folk alike were all pulled apart by this mighty wash that split the ground in two. Shocked at this the musicians again began playing in an attempt to sway nature to not Another Rich History of Catastrophes to occur.
Sadly while music may soothe a savage beast, it will fall deaf on Mother Nature's ears.
Longing for his bride to be, Rabbit made the decision to try and cross the deepening chasm. This would prove to be his downfall as he was swiftly pulled down, The Art of Sweeping Things Under the Rug (proverbially) proving to the waters true specialty. He was never seen again.
A month passed and the sun had dried up the river, though the land remained unreasonably changed. Never more would the people of Grizzle be able to reach Chrome. Never again would the maid Hash take a love for if your heart gets broken in two by a force of nature, never again will it mend. Legend has it she left the holler for the dry desert of New Mexico where the rains never came. Conley and Fosco began referring to their collaboration as Rabbit Hash in honor of the lost lovers, creating one final number as a fair-the-well to the never to be widow named Have You Ever Been Lonely in Tucumcari. what should have been originally released. the lo-fi nature works wonderfully in the record's favor... feels very natural. bailey plays off of the backing quite nicely! james

Organic yet glitched, folksy yet forward-looking, seamless yet utterly compartmentalized. Again, just like w/ his last album, "When the Roses..." jumps on my Best Music of 2023 list 1/2way thru my 1st listen/lesson. Already struggling to not overplay this on repeat. Otis Nugatory
